ExpressPay from American Express: The New Direction in POS Transactions
ExpressPay from American Express is the contactless payment product that uses radio frequency (RF) technology to speed up the payment process. Contactless payments can help improve speed, convenience, and security for your customers, with minimal impact on your cashiers and equipment.
Customers simply hold an ExpressPay key fob or a Card embedded with the ExpressPay feature in front of the reader. There’s no cash to count, check to write, or anything else to slow them down. ExpressPay is a perfect fit for any merchants who want to increase spending, speed-up check-out times and reduce long lines.
Merchant Benefits:
- Increased loyalty and spending
- Faster throughput
- Easy integration with POS
- Interoperable with other contactless products
In addition, to further speed up transactions, signatures are not required for transactions under $25 for magstripe and contactless transactions in the following industries:
5912 - Drug Store/Pharmacy
5814 - Fast Food Restaurants
7832 - Movie Theater
7523 - Parking lot/Garages
5499 - Convenience Store
4121 - Taxi Companies, Limo
4111 - Local Commuter/Passenger Transport
To enable ExpressPay acceptance, the technical requirements are as follows:
- The merchant site must be enabled to accept American Express transactions with an active American Express merchant account number.
- Merchants must pass unedited, nonkeyed, track one and/or two data as part of the authorization request. ExpressPay transactions are processed just like magnetic stripe transactions, in that no additional data elements are passed to the American Express host system.
- Only certified contactless readers may be used to accept ExpressPay.
- CID prompt must be suppressed for all ExpressPay transactions, as ExpressPay does not support this functionality.
