Merchants are now able to take advantage of increased speed and convenience through Visa Contactless—the latest evolution in Visa payment.
Visa Contactless is a new payment method that uses the latest technology to send card data via radio frequency to a terminal reader. A cardholder simply holds their card in front of the secure reader, instead of swiping. For many transactions, there is no need to sign a receipt or hand over the card.
How it works
A smart chip embedded in the contactless card transmits the cardholder's account data to the terminal reader by radio frequency. The cardholder's account is charged, and the purchase is processed in the same manner as a swiped transaction. All Visa contactless cards also have the standard magnetic stripe, so they also work with traditional card readers.
